Invasive Species:
Menominee Conservation District is a member of the Wild Rivers Invasive Specie Coalition. WRISC covers 5 counties in Michigan and Wisconsin.
The primary goals of WRISC are to:
Raise awareness about invasive species in the WRISC area
Prevent the introduction and spread of invasive species through monitoring, early detection, and rapid response
Address known populations of invasive species utilizing Integrated Invasive Species Management methods where appropriate
Consider restoration during invasive species projects
Continually work to enhance collaboration among all stakeholders involved with WRISC
More information about WRISC can be found on their website WRISC.org
Starting in 2013 the Menominee Conservation District has been working in coordination with the UPRC&D Council to map and plan a course of action to control Phragmites in Menominee County. If you know of a patch-either large or small- please contact us so that we can map it into our program. A common problem is identifying native vs. non-native phragmites. The following link is a great resource, and includes photos to help you with identification:

Your Conservation District is working with the Upper Peninsula Resource Conservation and Development Council (RC&D), Wild Rivers Invasive Species Coalition and other concerned groups to "get a handle on" the plant species that are non native and invasive.
